APRA-VA MEETING
OCTOBER 12, 2011
Minutes:

The Fall 2011 meeting of the Virginia Chapter of APRA was held on Wednesday, Oct 12, 2011 at Bon Secours Heart & Vascular Institute in Richmond.
The meeting’s agenda and educational sessions were coordinated by Nick Sollog, Program Chair. The sessions included the following presenters/topics:

 

Session I: PROSPECT RESEARCH IN A CAMPAIGN
Presented by:
Tricia Ambler, Senior Client Service Consultant, WealthEngine
Lisa Cheney, Director of Research & Constituent Management, Bon Secours Richmond Health Care Foundation

Using various slides, Tricia and Lisa gave us a review of the fundraising cycle and best practices for prospect management meetings and major gift prospect tracking. We examined the researcher’s role in each campaign stage from pre-campaign to public phase. Other items discussed were feasibility studies, wealth screenings, peer screenings and reports.

 

Session II: EFFECTIVE RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
Presented by:  Lisa Howley, John Hopkins Institutions via Webinar.

The 55-minute webinar reviewed various methods on how to evaluate process, policy and database needs when developing  relationship management systems. For most development offices, this usually means creating a new system or refining an existing one.

 

Session III (afternoon): Being a better YOU. How to Increase Your Personal ROE (Return on Energy)
Presented by: Jim Wilson, CEO (Chief Energizing Officer), Wilson Motivational – www.WilsonMotivational.com

Mr. Wilson gave us an “energizing” session and presented us with ways to improve communications with ourselves and others.  We learned the “top ten little things” that can lead to big results managing yourself in the time you have available. We were each given an index card w/ those top ten items and asked to choose one we would like to work on. This led us to discuss w/ another member ways we think we can succeed w/ this endeavor.

 

Business Meeting:
At  2:47 pm,  Lisa Cheney, Chapter President, called the business meeting to order.

 

Officer/Committee reports:

President Report, Lisa Cheney:

  • Lisa asked how many attended MARC conference. She suggested a few think about putting together a session for a meeting.
  • APRA- International Conference in Minnesota – presenters needed by Oct. 14, 2011

 

Vice-President Report, Lori Hoover:

  • Chapter Scholarship was awarded to Jennifer Huebner. The board voted to extend her ability to use at next year’s conference, since she has since switched institutions.
  • Lori encouraged others to apply for scholarship this year.
  • Reminder to renew membership – we are on calendar year renewals.

 

Secretary Report, Nicole Branch:

  • Copies of last minutes were available if anyone needed a hard copy. You can still go online and approve those minutes.
  • Minutes from this meeting will be available very soon online.

 

Treasurer Report, Delia Kloh:

  • We are financially sound at the present time.

 

Membership Chair Report, Courtney Cherry:

  • Updated membership lists were circulated.
  • We have approximately 70 members.
  • Courtney is working on a welcome email for new members.

 

Publicity Chair & Webmaster Report, Chris Hubert:

 

Program Chair Report, Nick Sollog:

  • We have 2 upcoming meetings planned: 02/08/2012 & 06/13/2012. We are still looking for hosts for these meetings.
  • If you have an interest in speaking or know someone that would be willing to speak at one of our upcoming meetings, let Nick know.
  • Jay Frost has agreed to present at our Fall 2012 meeting.

 

The business meeting officially adjourned at 2:57pm.
