APRA-VA Meeting
October 17, 2007
Minutes
The Fall 2007 meeting of the Virginia
Chapter of APRA was held on Wednesday, October 17 at Longwood
University. The agenda and educational sessions were
coordinated by Lisa Cheney, Program Chair. The educational
sessions included the following presenters:

Duke Grkovic, Cambridge Advisors “The
New Physics of Philanthropy” – Duke Grkovic is the owner and
founder of Cambridge Advisors. Cambridge’s initial focus is to
empower clients to gain intentionality in capturing their vision
for what’s important for themselves, their families and society.
The firm establishes critical structures to sustain the
clarified vision across generations. Duke will discuss the
business model employed by his firm to help clients make wise
choices in an atmosphere of freedom and inspiration. Duke is
also a member of the Ultimate Gift Ambassador Network. He will
also discuss the guide that has been developed to translate the
values and insights offered by The Ultimate Gift.

Craig Rogers, Longwood University
“Prospect Research & Management from a VP’s Perspective” –
Craig Rogers is the recently appointed Vice President for
University Advancement at Longwood. Throughout his twenty-year
career he has served many different roles in the Development
office. He will discuss his outlook and perspective of research
and the relationships between Development Officers and
Researchers. Craig will lead an interactive discussion on what
role do APRA-VA members play in the concentric circle of
fundraising.

Claudia Brookman, Randolph-Macon
“Records Management for a Small Shop” – Claudia Brookman,
current member and former president of APRA-VA, will share her
skills in record management organization. “Starting from
scratch” to “maintaining a system”, Claudia will recommend some
helpful pointers.
The business meeting
was called to order at 11:45 A.M. by Tricia Ambler, Chapter
President.
Officer/Committee
reports:
President Report,
Tricia Ambler:
- Tricia thanked
everyone for attending the Fall meeting and also recognized
Longwood for hosting the event.
- Tricia explained
the need to fill the vacant secretary position for the
chapter. Leah Payne was officially nominated by Vickie
Black and seconded by Lisa Cheney. The motion passed by a
unanimous vote of the membership. Leah Payne was officially
welcomed as secretary.
- Tricia reported
the Spring 2007 and Fall 2007 meeting minutes will be
reviewed and approved at the Winter 2008 meeting.
Vice-President
Report, Caroline Oblack:
- Caroline
reminded everyone that APRA’s 20th Anniversary
was celebrated in the Summer of 2007.
Program Chair
Report, Lisa Cheney:
- Lisa reported
that theWinter meeting will be held in Richmond during
February.
- She will avoid
the dates of the CASE III conference for the winter meeting
and MARC for the Spring meeting.
Treasurer Report,
Lorie Hoover:
- Lorie requested
that all checks be received by the end of December for
previous held meetings.
Secretary Report,
Leah Payne:
Membership Chair
Report, Vickie Black:
- Vickie reported
the membership currently includes 37 organizations and 76
individuals.
- She explained
that she will be sending out an electronic membership list
in the near future. Updates or corrections should be
emailed toVickie.
- Vickie reminded
everyone that annual membership renewals are due by the end
of December to retain membership for 2008.
Publicity Chair &
Webmaster Report, Nick Sollog:
- Nick requested
that changes and updates be sent to him via email.
- He also reported
all announcements will be displayed for three months unless
requested otherwise.
The business meeting
officially adjourned at 12:15 P.M.
