9:35 a.m.      “Privacy & the Prospect Researcher”

David Lamb, Target Analytics, Blackbaud, Inc.

Over the past decade, Americans have seen a rise in infringements on their personal privacy.  The social reaction has rippled through our legal and economic systems.  Like government and business, nonprofit organizations must address privacy issues effectively or risk alienating their constituents and donors.  New laws have been enacted that impact the activities of nonprofits.  This session will discuss the legal and ethical aspects of privacy and the nonprofit community.  We will identify the key components of a nonprofit policy privacy policy.  Sample privacy statements will be made available.

David Lamb, Target Analytics, Blackbaud, Inc.

Prospect researchers deal with numbers all the time.  If only there were a master formula into which you could plug all the numbers and crank out the perfect ask amount for each prospect.  Alas, there is no such thing, but some calculations, formulas, and estimations can be helpful in identifying and qualifying prospects using the available numbers.  In this session you will learn about these methods of calculation and estimation to qualify a prospect at a reasonable gift range.

3:10 p.m.       “Using Data Systems to Inform Research & Prospect Management”

Lorie Hoover, Director of Research & Data Management

                        Lynchburg College

Too often, we come up with research/prospect management plans in a vacuum and then try to adapt our databases to work with the new plans.  Sometimes it is a good idea to see how your existing data systems can inform your research and prospect management plans.  Find out how Lynchburg College is taking advantage of a data systems conversion to drive needed changes in research and prospect management.
