Apra-VA Spring 2020 Webinar Series Session 5 Negotiating Requests:
Finding a Common Ground for Common Good
May 13, 2020

Apra-Virginia is proud to announce that the next speakers in our spring webinar series will be Jennifer Huebner, Associate Director, Research and Relationship Management at The George Washington University, Josh Forsyth, Director of Prospect Management & Principal Giving Services at the University of Minnesota Foundation, Jaime Miranda, Senior Associate Director, Development Research at University of Southern California.

Presentation Details:
Negotiating Requests: Finding a Common Ground for Common Good
This session will provide an overview of interpersonal skills as well as procedural tactics you can use to build or hone a process for negotiating these types of requests within your team. Attendees will learn to confidently apply one or more interpersonal techniques addressed in the presentation to their own communication style when presented with a research request that is last-minute in nature, and/or involves ambiguity around what the requester needs.  As prospect development professionals, we are faced with numerous requests for information each day from gift officers, as well as those in leadership positions within our organizations. Some of these are quick data points (e.g., what is my prospect’s new business address?), and others are larger in scope (e.g., what is this family’s history of giving to the university, and what is the extent of their engagement with us?). Oftentimes, these requests are last-minute in nature, with tight deadlines—and require clarification as far as what exactly the requester needs.
