Minutes – APRA-VA Meeting – 10/16/03

 

The fall meeting of the Virginia Chapter of APRA was held on October 16, 2003 at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. There were 31 people in attendance. The featured speakers for the Fall conference were 1) Thomas MacKay, former director of computing services at the College of William and Mary, speaking on “Composite Evaluations: A predictive modeling project for the University, and the methods and date his team used to weight and rank W&M’s alumni database” and 2) Jon Thorsen, Senior Director of Development Resources at American Red Cross headquarters in Washington DC on “A Mine is a Terrible Thing to Waste.”

 

Before breaking for lunch, the business meeting was called to order by President Claudia Brookman (see attached agenda).

 

-Claudia brought the upcoming DC-chapter meeting to the attention of those present.

-Work continues on a membership survey celebrating the chapter’s 10th year that will be mailed after the first of the year.

-Noted changes in chapter leadership:

-Liz Muller has retired and is being replaced by Chris Pipkins as Vice President.

-Kim Rodriguez has moved and is being replaced by Christine Lockmon (Director of Development at the College of William and Mary) as secretary.

 

Committee reports:

 

Treasurer: Claudia Brookman, on behalf of John Thelin, reported a balance in the treasury of $5,699.72).

 

Program Chair: Tricia Ambler announced that the next chapter meeting will be held at VMI on December 19th. Attendees will participate in the APRA Virtual Seminar on data mining. Details to be sent to membership at a later date. Tricia also noted that she has received many useful meeting topic suggestions and encouraged members to continue to send her ideas for future programs.

 

Publicity Chair: Chris Pipkins noted that he will send chapter announcements to both Prspct-L and to the membership via email. He encouraged members to forward to him additional information for the chapter homepage including Virginia links, Virginia member web pages, and Virginia job announcements.

 

Membership Chair: Claudia Brookman reported on behalf of Dottie Little that chapter membership stands at 89 members with 18 new members thus far in the year.

 

A motion to adjourn was made and seconded. With no further business to discuss, the meeting concluded at 11:45 am, with the afternoon portion of the program to follow.
