Minutes APRA-VA Meeting January 24, 2002
The winter meeting of the Virginia Chapter of APRA was held in Fredericksburg, at the James Monroe Center of Mary Washington University, with 28 people in attendance (see attached list). Please see attached agenda for the program, which was on data mining, presented by Lawrence Henze of Blackbaud Analytics and Liz Dixon of Elixir Marketing.
The business meeting was called to order by President Anne Rhodes at 2:45 p.m. Anne reported on the previous combined meeting with the Metro DC chapter held October 19, 2001. Especially interesting was the presentation by the FBI, which is recruiting research analysts to work in various field offices, with an entry level salary of about $45,000.
Shelley Pellish gave the Treasurers report, showing a balance of $4,512.84 (see attached). Shelley reported that the treasury has over $1,000 more than last years balance at this time. She suggested that the chapter create a small scholarship for someone to attend the National Conference this year. Anne Rhodes pointed out that decisions would have to be made as to what the scholarship would cover and what the amount would be ($500 suggested). She asked Shelley to create a proposal for the scholarship, put on the chapter website, and plan to vote on it at the May meeting so the award could be made by June.
Shelley reported in the absence of Membership Chairman, Dottie Little. Dottie will be sending dues renewal notices by e-mail for the year 2000, with a form to be printed and sent to Shelley with a check. She reminded members that the dues will increase this year to $20.
Shelley further reported for Dottie that updated membership directories are being distributed. She asked members to check their information and to e-mail Dottie with any corrections at littledm@jmu.edu.
Anne Rhodes expressed appreciation to Chris Pipkins for the work he has done on the chapter website.
Secretary Nancy Lanier thanked Claudia Brookman for providing information for the minutes from the October 19, 2001 meeting, since Nancy wasnt able to attend. The minutes were prepared and put on the website; however, no APRA-VA business was conducted at this meeting, and there was no need for membership approval.
Program Chair Angela Vaughan reported that so far, there is no host for the May meeting, and the program has not been decided. Angela asked for volunteers to host the meeting. President Anne Rhodes will be in touch with members about details of the May meeting.
Anne Rhodes reminded members of opportunities to volunteer for the upcoming APRA International Conference in Washington, DC August 14-17.
Anne thanked Danielle Szenas, our host for this meeting.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 3:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy M. Lanier, Secretary
