APRA-VA 10th Anniversary Conference

Highlights of the past ten years

  • The first meeting to discuss formation of a Virginia Chapter of the “American Prospect Research Association” was held November 9, 1994 at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Jennifer Boag, then Director of Prospect Management at the College of William & Mary led the discussion. Twenty-five researchers representing 15 organizations attended—including APRA National board member, Margo Knight. Current members who were present include:

  • Original chapter dues were $10.
  • In 1995, there were 32 dues paying members (as of October 2004, there are 95 members).
  • In 1995, APRA-VA expressed interest in hosting the 2002 national conference in Richmond (the conference was held in Washington DC; the Virginia Chapter assisted).
  • The chapter web page was first created in 1997 by Beth Grant.
  • The first “annual” membership survey was conducted in 1997. The survey contained questions on salary, job description, chapter objectives and programs, and the willingness of members to take leadership roles in mentoring and leading topical chapter programs.
  • Chapter dues increased to $20 beginning in 2002.
  • The Fall 2001 meeting was held jointly with the APRA-Metro DC Chapter—“Capital Conference 2001.”
  • The APRA-VA scholarship was initiated in 2002; the first recipient was Liz Muller (UVA Darden School).
  • Membership Survey (2003).
